Nightmares

The Colonies

A few weeks back I had a nightmare. I awoke with a sense of dread and a feeling that I needed to check on the colonies. I wish I had taken that feeling a bit more seriously. Instead, I went on with my day and forgot about the dream. Today I remembered.

This morning Jason suggested we go on a picnic in the colonies. I though it was a fine idea so off we went. What we found shocked us. The colonies were in a state of chaos. Smoke and fire filled the colonies. Not a person in sight. What happened here? Where did all the people go? Maybe we'll find answers as we put the fires out and clean up the mess.

A good season

Basketball is over and it was a good season. Olivia gained confidence and found out she really likes basketball. She finished her season strong scoring in her last two games. Way to go Olivia!

Cheetos People

You would never think you'd make the biggest discovery in the history of mankind while eating a bag of Cheetos but that's what happened today. I reached into my Cheetos bag expecting to find a tasty snack but this is what I pulled out, a Cheetos person!  

He must have froze when he realized I noticed him but I'm too smart to fall for that old trick. Clearly he was taking a brisk walk through Cheetos Town when I grabbed him. I suspect he had quite a bit on his mind and was out clearing his head. I'm pretty sure he was figuring out how to propose to his Cheetos girlfriend. Was tonight the night? He also was thinking about buying a new pair of pants but he wasn't sure if it was completely necessary. He could do it now and get it done but he didn't really need them for a month or so. Maybe just grab a quick lunch at the Cheetos Town deli. Probably a ham sandwich, maybe turkey. He'll just wait till he gets there and see what looks good. Shit, did he feed the dog? No, no he didn't. Ok, he's gonna just grab a sandwich to go and head home. 

So yeah, be on alert! Look for Cheetos people!

The good old hockey game...

I took the girls to the Blackhawks game last night. They had tons of fun. I loved seeing them happy. Also, we got bobble heads! At least ten middle aged men asked the kids if they wanted to sell their bobble heads. They said "NO!" every time.

Practice 1

It's so good to have Formula 1 back. This weekend is the first race of the season, The Australian Grand Prix. A new season with so many compelling story lines. Will Vettel and Red Bull find their pace? Will Lewis Hamilton make a run at the World Championship or will his Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg rise up and steal it away? Can Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen get along at Ferrari? It's going to be a fun year.

An Omen?

Last week I was talking on the phone when I looked outside and saw this. Apparently this hawk decided to have lunch in my yard. He ate his lunch leaving only a few feathers. I really thought nothing of it until the next morning. During that night I had a dream.....a nightmare. All I can remember is the hawk and a feeling that I needed to check on the colonies. It's been so long since Jason and I visited the colonies. Maybe this week. I hope everything is good there. I'm sure things are fine. We set up the colonies to be rock solid.

Last night Olivia said "Daddy, what was your favorite cartoon?" I really had to think about it. I realized the answer was different depending on how old I was. So I told her about my first favorite, Underdog. Quickly we got Underdog on the TV and Olivia experienced a small but memorable part of my childhood.

Versteeg being Versteeg

Watching the Hawks game last night I couldn't help but laugh when I saw this. I had to take a picture of it. With the way Versteeg's playing lately, this feels appropriate. Just Versteeg being Versteeg. 

The Wind Rises

 

I was able to see The Wind Rises yesterday. I'm happy to have seen this movie in the theater, not always an option with Miyazaki films. I hope this was not Miyazaki's final masterpiece but I have a feeling it is. This was an absolutely beautiful movie with a compelling story. I strongly urge everybody to see this film if you can.
